Greenlit: Do or Dye: Hair Academy, BBC1 Scotland

Do or Dye: Hair Academy (4 x 30′) – Following the highs and lows of wannabe hair stylists, this fly-on-the-wall documentary series spends a year in the life of a group of students at Scotland’s biggest hairdressing training academy, Rainbow Room International.

Narrated by Edith Bowman the series follows the students through the ups and downs of salon life as they take their first steps towards becoming stylists, working in the glamorous, but competitive, hairdressing industry.

Leading hairdressing chain Rainbow Room International have salons across Glasgow, Stirling and Ayr. In 2003, owners Alan and Linda Stewart set up a hairdressing academy in Glasgow, training over 80 students a year.

Amongst the wannabe stylists are Binky, Angel, Alijah, Austin and Syd – all keen to prove they’re a cut above the rest to salon directors John, Riccardo, Dylan and David and no-nonsense Academy Director, Leigh.

The series sees the students explain why many of them have ‘salon names’; follows the team as they work in the T in the Park pop-up salon and at the Scottish Style Awards; highlights the competitive side of Halloween in the salons; and discovers which students have a future in hairdressing.
