Greenlit: Prison: First & Last 24 Hours, Sky 1

Prison: First & Last 24 Hours  – A new hard-hitting documentary series examining life behind prison bars that unlocks the reality of crime and punishment in modern Britain and follows convicted criminals on the two most important days of any sentence: the first and the last 24 hours.

The series has unprecedented access to four Scottish prisons: HMP Barlinnie in Glasgow, HMP Low Moss, HMP Greenock and Scotland’s only women’s prison, HMP Cornton Vale.

The series will follow new inmates and give viewers an insight into the reality of being ‘banged up’ and the regrets and loneliness that will accompany prisoners over the weeks, months and years of their sentences.

While some inmates are nervously settling into their new home, others are excitedly preparing for their release but are also aware of the challenges they face in making a new life on the outside. The documentary gives a unique insight into the difficulties that prisoners face in breaking out of a cycle of incarceration.

Casting a watchful eye over both groups are the prison staff who reveal that their difficult jobs are made possible by a mixture of authority, humour and compassion.

This is prison as it has never been seen before. Honest and compelling, could change our perceptions of life on the inside forever.
