Greenlit: The Rise And Fall Of The ‘Angel Of Peckham’ , BBC1

The Rise And Fall Of The ‘Angel Of Peckham’  (1 x 60′) – On 5 August 2015, following a summer of allegations and accusations, Kids Company – the charity headed by Camila Batmanghelidjh – closed its doors for the final time after 19 years. Filmmaker Lynn Alleway was there, filming throughout as the walls came tumbling down. This documentary charts the final weeks of an organisation synonymous with its founder.

Ten years ago, Lynn made the film Tough Love – Tough Kids, spending a year filming with Camila and Kids Company. A decade on she returned to the charity with a view to bringing that film up to date, at a time when many charities were struggling under financial pressures. While she was filming, the organisation was engulfed in the crisis that would ultimately lead to its closure.

With extraordinary and intimate access, this film will explore the personality of the woman at the heart of this charity and ask wider questions as to why Kids Company ended up collapsing and closing its doors for good.

This is the human story of a very public fall from grace, the unforeseen fallout for the people around Camila and a journey of shifting perspectives and sympathies.
