Murderers and their Mothers (10 x 60′) – Donal MacIntyre reveals startling new facts about the disturbing childhoods and maternal relationships of notorious killers from the UK and around the world. This is a rarefied field of criminology and psychology, and each unique programme will bring new theories and insights to the table. Complementing each linear episode, 30-minute podcasts will also be made available with Donal and fellow experts analysing these horrific cases further.

Throughout the series Donal will be in conversation with his colleague from Birmingham City University, Dr. Elizabeth Yardley, Associate Professor of Criminology and Director of the Centre for Applied Criminology. The murderers investigated in the first part of the series include Daniel Bartlam: ‘The “Coronation Street” Killer’; Fred and Rosemary West: ‘Killer Couple’; Jed Allen: ‘The “Wolverine” Killer’; Harold Shipman: ‘The Angel of Death’; Joachim Knychala: ‘Frankenstein’ and Dennis Nilsen: ‘The Kindly Killer’.
