Greenlit: The Rise and Fall of El Chapo, History

The Rise and Fall of El Chapo (1 x 120′) – Killer, drug smuggler, folk hero, Houdini of jailhouse escapes – Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman continues to make headline news.

But now  this documentary takes an in depth look at the man behind the myth and how his international drug cartel impacts us right here at home.  We’ll learn how a poor Mexican orange-seller with a third-grade education rose to lord over a multi-national drug cartel with billion dollar profits. It traces his rise to become “Public Enemy Number One” for the U.S. agents on a mission to bring him down and stanch the flow of illegal narcotics into the heart of America.

This special documentary features rarely seen footage of the prison escape that stunned the world… as well as the cat and mouse chase that followed. Through on-the-ground access to the San Diego Tunnel Task Force, viewers get a first-hand look at the intricate drug smuggling tunnels that have become El Chapo’s trademark. We’ll hear from a host of voices connected to the kingpin including his beauty queen wife, Emma Coronel, former undercover DEA Agent Mike Vigil, former senior official and legal advisor to both the Dept. of Justice and Homeland Security, Peter Vincent and investigative reporter, Anabel Hernandez.
